This school year, an elementary school teacher in our area contacted Veranda Dentistry and asked if we ever did dental work for kids in need. One of her students broke his front teeth when he fell off his bike, and his teacher witnessed his discomfort firsthand as his classmates asked for details over and over: “He has had to answer a million questions daily about what happened to his teeth. He is so embarrassed, he tries to avoid talking and having to explain what happened. I feel awful for him. He also has pain associated with this. I am not sure if you can help, but I thought I would give it a try.” When Veranda Dentistry heard this story, we knew we had to help!
Dr. Emily brought the student in for a complete exam shortly after. Following a trauma to the mouth, the worst-case scenario is that nerves inside the teeth are damaged past normal response, meaning root canals will be required to save the teeth. Luckily, this student’s mouth was in good shape, and the only repairs he needed were three composite restorations (tooth-colored fillings). His spirits were visibly higher when he left our office.
The following day, his teacher wrote us again:
“I can’t even begin to thank you for what you did for my student. I wish you could have seen him yesterday when he came to school. He went from person to person, staff member to staff member, showing everyone his beautiful teeth and smile, after hiding for so long! You did an amazing job and there is no way to say thanks, other than just to say thank you. I hope you know what a difference you made in this boy’s life.”
This story is a great reminder that small acts of kindness and having a smile you’re proud of can both make a huge impact on a person’s life! Do you have questions about how we can give you the smile you’ve been dreaming of? Give us a call today.
